Titanium a tough material

Titanium is a silvery-white light metal that is often found, but is difficult to extract. In its pure form titanium is easy to form, malleable, thermally relatively stable and very good electrical conductor. Important characteristics are its mechanical strength and low thermal expansion. Titanium is relatively resistant to air at room temperature and its corrosion resistance is comparable to that of precious metals.

High-purity titanium is used as a getter metal to remove the last gas residues in vacuum technology, as it reacts with small amounts of oxygen. Corrosion-resistant, pure titanium is used in the construction of chemical plants. Due to their high strength, low weight and excellent corrosion resistance, titanium alloys are excellent construction materials for shipbuilding and the aerospace industry. Titanium is also an important alloying element in special steels.

At E.WAGENER, you can obtain titanium in all possible forms, alloys and processing forms, in each case according to your requirements.

Titanium - very strong with low thermal expansion

The element with atomic number 22 combines several unique properties. With a density of only 4.50 g/cm³ it is exceptionally light, yet it is considered one of the toughest and most resilient metals in the world. Impacts and shocks do not affect parts made of titanium. Added to this is its extremely low expansion when exposed to heat. Despite its relatively high melting point (1,727°C), pure titanium is not recommended for high-temperature applications, as even between 400-600°C some changes in the physical properties occur and titanium begins to react with its surroundings, which can lead to inflammations and even explosions.

Titanium alloys make almost every material hard

Alloys with titanium components are to be viewed quite differently. Here, even the smallest amounts of titanium provide decisive improvements in the strength of the materials. One example is the microalloying of steel. Even in concentrations as low as 0.01-0.1 percent by mass, titanium gives steel high toughness, strength and ductility, i.e. malleability, without breaking. Despite their relatively high price, titanium alloys are the first choice for a wide range of applications, from outdoor sports articles such as golf clubs to titanium protective vests for the military.
